Mt Hood Alpine Development

Mt. Hood Alpine Development comprises interested ski clubs and programs from Mt. Hood's racing community. The purpose of the Committee is to promote clear and achievable development paths for young alpine ski racers on Mt. Hood. This includes fostering a smooth, understandable transition for J4s and J3s up to the F.I.S. levels of ski racing, as well as providing an elite F.I.S. training program that respects and fulfills the needs of Mt. Hood's top elite athletes. The committee intends to consolidate and strengthen ski racing activity on the mountain, and to appropriately raise the bar for our J4, J3 and F.I.S. level athletes.

WHAT'S NEW... (updated 2/1/06)

Goals

bullet

To offer a mountain-wide program that provides elite level training, race travel, athlete management, academics and financial support to Mt. Hood's FIS-age athletes; utilizing all of the mountain's appropriate resources, including both winter and summer programs of athletics and academics.

bullet

To offer mountain-wide coordinated training and racing projects for Mt. Hood area J3 and J4 athletes who are members of their local teams.

bullet

To offer mountain-wide coordinated training and racing projects for Mt. Hood area J1 and J2 athletes who are members of their local teams, but are not actively competing at the FIS levels.

bullet

To promote a mountain-wide sharing of resources that will benefit all of Mt. Hood's young athletes and the local racing programs.

bullet

To make ski racing more fun by joining competitors from different programs with similar interests and goals.

While it is our full intention to ultimately support all ages of racing from 12 years old and up - it is important to the success of the program to establish goals that are achievable in the near term.

As such - we have identified the 6 projects listed below as a good first step towards achieving our long term goals.  These projects focus on primarily J3 level racers with an overlap of one year above and below.  Developing a strong J3 group in the short term is what will build the stability and success of this effort up into the J2 and J1 programs in the future.
